What does the skeleton do overall?
The human skeleton provides several functions including support, protection, movement and making blood cells. Antagonistic muscles work against each other in pairs.
How many bones in the human skeleton?
Our skeleton is made of more than 200 bones
What does Calcuim do to the body?
Calcium and other minerals make the bone strong but slightly flexible.
Is the bones a living tissue?
Bone is a living tissue with a blood supply. It is constantly being dissolved and formed, and it can repair itself if a bone is broken.
What the four main functions of the skeleton?
The skeleton has four main functions:
to support the body
to protect some of the vital organs of the body
to help the body move
to make blood cells
what does the skeleton protect
what the skeleton protects:
the skull protects the brain
the ribcage protects the heart and lungs
the backbone protects the spinal cord
What are the different types of movements?
Some bones in the skeleton are joined rigidly together and cannot move against each other. Bones in the skull are joined like this. Other bones are joined to each other by flexible joints. Muscles are needed to move bones attached by joints.
where are the red blood cells made?
These cells are made in the bone marrow. This is soft tissue inside our larger bones which is protected by the hard part of the bone which surrounds it.
what are the two different types of blood cells?
The red blood cell and the white
what does the red blood cell do?
It carries oxygen. Red blood cells also remove carbon dioxide from your body, transporting it to the lungs for you to exhale. Red blood cells are made in the bone marrow.
what does the white blood cell do?
White blood cells , also called leukocytes or leucocytes, are the cells of the immune system that are involved in protecting the body against both infectious disease and foreign invaders. All white blood cells are produced and derived from multipotent cells in the bone marrow known as hematopoietic stem cells.
what is a microorganisms?
a microscopic organism, especially a bacterium, virus, or fungus.
what diseases are caused by microorganisms?
Microbes cause infectious diseases such as flu and measles. There is also strong evidence that microbes may contribute to many non–infectious chronic diseases such as some forms of cancer and coronary heart disease. Different diseases are caused by different types of micro-organisms.
