How are fossils formed?
Fossils are formed by dead animals near a water source with quick burial in sedimentary rock, sand, or mud.
Do all organisms create fossils?
ALL ORGANISMS DO NOT CREATE FOSSILS
They need to be in a specific place at a specific time and die there, very rare and doesn’t happen often.
What is the Fossil Record?
A group of fossils that have been discovered, arranged in chronological order, and classified.
Who can edit the Fossil Record record?
Paleontologists and Archaeologists.
What does the fossil record tell us about fossils?
Provides background information about evolutionary history across the history of living organisms.
What is a adaptation?
process of adapting.
Are all adaptations helpful for organisms over time?
Yes, but no if they are in different environments.
What happens when organisms cannot adapt to environment?
They die
What is Natural Selection?
The process that organisms better adapted to environment survive better than ones who don’t
Difference between adaptation and Natural Selection?
Natural selection is the course of evolution. Adaptations are traits that make an organism better suited to its environment.
Are mutations all good?
There are three types of mutations -
Harmful - A mutation that hurts you more than helping you survive.
Helpful - A mutation that helps you survive.
Neutral - A mutation that doesn’t help or hurt you.
How do mutations occur?
Random changes in DNA
What is Dominant?
The Gene of Allele that has higher chances to give to offspri ng. Also capital on Punnet Squares
What is Recessive?
The Gene of Allele that has lower chanc es to give to offspri ng. Not capital on punnet squares
What is the difference between a Gene of Allele?
A Gene is the general thing, Allele is the subgroup
Ex. A gene is said to create an eye, then the Allele(more specific gene) tells the eye to be blue.
What is a Phenotype?
The observable characteristics of a Genotype.
Phenotype
Phy - physical
What is a Genotype?
The non-observable characteristic of itself.
What is a Claudogram?
Showing the relationship between animals.
Looks angled line.
How to find the common ancestor of Claudograms?
Find the animal with the most similar characteristics.
What is the Circulatory System?
The Circulatory System transports resources throughout the body using veins and arteries; the heart is the pump.
What is the Respiratory System?
The Respiratory system helps with breathing.
What is the Digestive System?
The Digestive System breaks down nutrient.
What is the Nervous System?
The Nervous System helps with moving and feeling touch.
(You have to remember the Nervous system cell)
What is the difference between an Arteries and a Veins?
Arteries carry blood away from the heart, Veins carry blood to the heart
