9-1 to 9-6 Flashcards
(25 cards)
Translation?
A function that moves or changes a figure in some way to produce a new figure called an image.
Composition of transformations?
Two or more transformations are combined to form a single transformation
Rigid motion?
A rigid motion preserves length and angle
Reflection?
A transformation that uses a line like a mirror to reflect a figure
Line of reflection?
The line that is used to mirror the figure.
Reflection is x-axis
Reflection in y-axis
Reflection in like y=x
Reflection in line y=-x
(a,b) —- (a,-b)
(a,b) —- (-a,b)
(a,b) —- (b,a)
(a,b) —- (-b,-a)
Glide reflection?
Translating a figure by sliding it along a line, then reflection the figure over an axis of reflection. The translation is on a line parallel to the line of reflection.
Line symmetry?
Symmetrical across a line.
Line of symmetry?
The line that divides a shape or an object into two equal and symmetrical parts.
Rotation?
A transformation in which a figure is turned about a fixed point
Center of rotation?
The point at which the figure is rotated.
Angle of rotation?
Rays drawn from the center of rotation to a fixed point and its image for the angle of rotation.
Rotation of 90
Rotation of 180
Rotation of 270
(a,b) —- (-b,a)
(a,b) —- (-a,-b)
(a,b) —- (b,-a)
Rotational symmetry?
A property of a shape or object that looks the same after a certain amount of rotation about a central point (less than 360)
Center of symmetry?
A point in a figure such that every part of the figure has a matching point the same distance from that point but in the opposite direction.
Congruent figures?
Two figures are congruent if and only if there is rigid motion or composition of rigid motions that maps one of the figures onto the other.
Congruence transformations?
A combination of rigid motions.
Dialation?
A transformation that change the size of a figure by a scale factor by enlarging or reducing the figure from a fixed point while keeping the same shape (not rigid)
Center of dialation?
The fixed point in a plane about which a figure is enlarged or reduced. The points are either moved closer to or father from the center depending on the scale factor.
Scale factor?
Describes how much a figure is enlarged or reduced during a dialation.
Enlargement?
Type of dilation: >1 or <-1
Reduction?
Type of dilation <1 or >-1
Joint Relative Frequency?
The ratio of a frequency that is not in the total row or the total column to the total number of values of observations.
Marginal Relative Frequency?
The sum of the joint relative frequencies in a row or column.
