9. Sim Tips and Tricks Flashcards
(17 cards)
Scan strips while you put them in the bay
You must demonstrate that crossing track traffic has ______ separation and reciprocal track have at least ______ before you climb/descend one through the other.
20 NM / 80 NM
Have a cutoff point for Plan A
When updating an altitude for traffic or request, make sure to update the filed alt and cleared alt.
Straighten out the route when possible, this makes PIVs more accurate
On initial contact, to avoid turning in other’s airspace, say “At, TULEG, proceed direct MOGAG on course”
Any aircraft with a W on it, request control on handoff.
If you put a W on a strip, pan out and put a PTL on that A/C
For crossing restrictions, put a PTL on the conflict aircraft and a cursor halo around the waypoint to see if it will miss by 5 miles, and issue that as a crossing restriction.
Depending on how pressing a situation is, start an aircraft in descent. Wait for the readback and then give a restriction.
“ACA123 descend FL240”
“ACA123, descend FL240”
“ACA123, roger, (for traffic) cross BETUL at FL300 or below”
In general, for the 24sby the ILEMU/LIBEM line, aircraft can cross around FL340.
Remember to suppress strips as they transit PI’s airspace (if a strip goes green to handoff and isn’t on the bottom, check what is on the bottom).
Point out overflights to SI next to descending traffic so you can hand them off and not wait for 1000 ft clearance.
Handoffs from XI for YYZ landers, give them descent right away if there is no traffic.
7-10 NM separation, use 10 kts difference in transition speeds (first one 290 or greater, second 280 or less).
For YYZ landers, 290 is a good heading and a good transition speed.
When giving intermediate altitudes, remember to highlight the strip.
Remember to point out traffic on the northern PI airway to XI (if they are going to KORD or vicinity of YEE).
