24
Q

What cranial nerves are sensory?

25
What cranial nerves are motor?
3, 4, 6, 11, 12
26
What cranial nerves have mixed functions?
5, 7, 9, 10
27
Describe the Olfactory Nerve
CN 1, sense of smell, exits the skull through the cribiform plate
28
Describe the Optic nerve
CN 2, vision, exits the skull through the optic canal
29
What nerves control the muscles of the eye and how many muscles are there?
CN 3, 4 and 6- 6 muscles, these nerves exit the skull through the superior orbital fissure
30
Describe the Trigeminal nerve
Somatic sensory to the face and motor for muscles of mastication. There are 3 branches for sensory each leaving the skull in a different place- V1- Superior orbital fissure, V2- Foramen rotundum, V3- Foramen ovale
31
Describe the Facial nerve
CN 7, arises from the brain stem, 5 terminal branches (Temporal, Zygomatic, Buccal, Cervical and Marginal mandibular), Motor- muscles of facial expression, Visceral sensory to anterior 2/3 of tongue
32
Describe the Vestibulocochlear nerve
CN 8, hearing and balance, exits the skull at the internal acoustic meatus
33
Describe the Glossopharnygeal nerve
CN 9, sensory from tongue post 1/3 ( temp., fine touch and pain, taste), exits skull at Jugular foramen
34
Describe the Vagus nerve
CN 10, the autonomic nerve, visceral motor to mostly autonomic, somatic sensory to pharynx and larynx and so much more
35
Describe Spinal accessory nerve
CN 11, provides motor input to sternomastoid and upper part of trapezius, exits skull through jugular foramen, main job is to shrug shoulder and turn head
36
Describe the Hypoglossal nerve
CN 12, motor innervation to muscles of the tongue except palatoglossus (CN 10), exits the skull through hypoglosal foramen, controls movement of tongue
