Cell Cycle Flashcards
Describe the G1 checkpoint
Takes place at the end of G1 (interphase)
It checks for damaged DNA, cell size and protein serves.
If problems are detected, the cycle will be interrupted and the cell will try to fix itself or it will enter the G0 phase and wait for conditions to improve
Describe the G2 checkpoint
It prevents entry to the mitotic stage if DNA is damages.
It ensures that all chromosomes have been replicated. If problems are detected, the cell will compete DNA replication or repair the damaged DNA
Describe the M checkpoint
Occurs at the end of metaphase
Checks if all sister chromatids are correctly attached to the spindle fibers
cycle will not pursue unless kinetochores are firmly attached to 2 or more spindle fibers from opposite poles
