- social currency of sport, usually treated as an outcast but due to being able to play cricket he is accepted, sports breaks the barrier of racism

- short syntax = he is confused why someone has come to his window because it has never happened before = innocent, tone = concerned
- “they have to assume id been snatched. kidnapped. theyd never believe id slipped out of my own accord. this is by far the worst transgression, probably my only ever transgression”

interview scene
- eddie mcguire is collingwoods president and tv presenter who on live radio related adam goodes to king kong
- sequence opens with him sitting to the right of the screen ready to be interviewed with the transcript of his dialogue on the left stating “adam should play the ape in the new king kong premier”
- his indifferent and clueless facial expression represent how he has no idea that he has just made a negative racial comment on live radio
- footage of adam walking away form the camera with unsettling music as he has just realized that someone who is meant to be supporting him is condoning the act of casual racism stating “it is a comment that would be made at a BBQ”
invasion day parade
- sequence opens with the invasion day parade where many are protesting to change the date
- then swiftly changes to interviews with numerous australians who are asked what australia day is to them
- many stated “it is a day of fun and a time to relax”
- no one mentioned the invasion of the aboriginal land
- next sequence is adam stating “it is the saddest day of out culture,” contrasted to the fun and games may australians are encountering
GT genre
- western genre
- “the western hero usually stands alone and face danger on their own”
- western hero frequently rescues the damsel in distress”
- walt saves sue from the african american gang
- “what the fuck you looking at old man”
- low angle of walt to show power and authority, high angle of gang making them look powerless and weak
- walt has a straight back and remains eye contact
- aerial shot to show gangs insignificance
- drum music = walt is ready to fight
- “i will kick your wrinkly old white ass”
- ‘old’ ‘wrinkly’ = stereotype as frail, weak old man
- normally a hero is someone to look up to = no one sees walt as a hero
- walt is beneficial to society and not a burden
- need to reinforce he is the hero by the camera angles because people don’t know

- final scene = sacrifice, walt approaches hmong gang
- dark lighting = sin and violence
- military drums = rise in tension and ready to fight
- high angle of walt showing vulnerability, low angle of gang to represent empowerment
- hero should have full power, people should be intimidated by them
- hmong gang shoot at walt, he hits the ground in a christ like position = sacrifice for his town
- wasn’t emphasized throughout the entire film only caMe in at the end, he kept it to himself
plot “a westerner comes to a town of savagery, saves it, then leaves”
- walt has lived in detroit for 50 years watching his city being taken over by numerous gangs and turned into a priceless city
- he didn’t go to the town the savagery came to him
- he saved the town metaphorically killing the gang
- “he went to reach for his lighter and they shot him, he didn’t even have a gun on him, this time we have witnesses and they will be locked up for a very long time”
- he saved detroit from the gang
- he didn’t leave he died
- héros agent meant to die
- elderly are seen as weak and frail but walt is strong and brave
