What do teams comprise of?
A group of people working together, or in parallel, towards shared goals
What can a team be?
- A group of engineers working on a specific task or the same aircraft
- A group working together on the same shift
- A group working in the same location or site
What is a clear advantage of working as a team?
People feel they are part of a social group
What is a disadvantage of working as a team?
Can risk peer pressure enforced conformity to a group’s view
What are 3 benefits to working as part of a team?
- An opportunity to share resources (knowledge, tools, etc.)
- A chance to discuss problems and work towards solutions
- A chance to check each other’s work (either ‘officially’ or ‘unofficially’)
What do teams left to their own devices need?
Proper leadership
What can healthy competition and rivalry between teams create?
A strong team identity and encourage pride in their work
What does team identity allow?
A group of engineers to know each other’s capabilities and weaknesses
What can cause problems for teams?
If the shift change is not handed correctly, can compromise incoming teams performance
What 4 skills do team members need to have or acquire to function cohesively and productively?
