How did WW1 impact the vote for women

A

~ The success of thousands of women entering the workplace to do jobs usually carried out by men won them respect and admiration. (They proved themselves to be every bit the equal of men)
~ it dispelled any widespread beliefs that women were unable to cope with traditionally male jobs

Why did only some women get the vote in 1918

A

~ only women over the age of 30 who met a property qualification, or whose husband did got the vote as they were seen as more mature, married and financially stable
~ younger, single women who contributed in doing jobs traditionally carried out by men during WW1 weren’t recognised by the government until 1928
~ women didn’t get to vote if they didn’t meet the requirements needed to be able to vote

Why were women asked to take on traditional male jobs during the war?

A

~ The Women in Industry Service was an attempt to fill open factory positions to increase production
~ This would also allow extra men to be drafted because there were more people available to replace them
