If you get a phone call asking for information regarding one of your clients but you do not have authourity from the client, what do you do?
You should not disclose the information because you do not have authority to do so and this is not one of the 3 specific reasons you are allowed to disclose without authority. Therefore you should:
- get authority from the client
- preferably written but verbal is acceptable
- a disclaimer is required saying the information is confidential and for their use only
- information is given without any financial responsibility
Sales director asks you (an accountant) to reissue an invoice with a large discount. The discount he wants to give is bigger than the usual policy. What is the ethical issues and what should you do?
There is possible unethical behaviour due to giving a large discount.
Difficult because you are not as senior.
Must ensure you have all the relevant information.
Talk to higher management.
If not resolved talk to AAT.
Must not reissue invoice straightaway as it is against moral principles
