FUNCTIONALIST VIEW ON GENDER
They believe male and female genders are biologically constructed.
Functionalists believe that role allocation is based on the biology of women as they are more innately submissive and caregiving as they carry and care for the children.
Men are seen to be more dominant and protectors because they are Innately stronger. They are often described as “the bread winners” as they are the ones that go out to work.
FEMINIST VIEW ON GENDER
Feminists believes gender is socially constructed and society enforces stereotypes on males and females.
They believe that labels such as “breadwinner” are enforced by society through peer groups, the media (male gaze) and people associate men with the 3 F’s “fighting football and fucking”
Mulvey and the “male gaze”- Mulvey said women are constantly opressed with in the media by being sexualised through the male gaze which makes it harder for women to stray away from stereotypes.
