Autophagy and HIV Flashcards

1
Q

What is autophagy?

A

Autophagy is a lysosomal degradation pathway.

There first is enclosure of the membrane around the pathogen, which fuses with lysosomes that degrade the pathogen.

Q

Which signal molecules are needed for autophagy?

A

The autophagosome needs to be coated with LC3II, the pathogen with ubiquitin (tagged by E3 ligases). Then the autophagy receptors bind as a bridge between ubiquitin and LC3II.
