A
When an individual is selected as a target because of their race, ethnicity or religion

Extent and risk of victimisation
A
- The police recorded 54,000 racist incidents in England and Wales in 2014/15
- Yet most incidents go unreported. The CSEW estimates there were nearly 90,000 incidents in 2014/15
- The 2014/15 CSEW shows that those from mixed ethnic backgrounds had a higher risk of becoming a victim (27.9%) than blacks, Asians or whites (18%, 15.8%, 15.7%)
- These differences may also be due to other factors: such as being young, male and unemployed are also strongly linked with victimisation

- Responses have ranged from situational crime prevention measures such as fireproof doors and letterboxes to organised self-defence campaigns
