Q

Extent and risk of victimisation

A
  • The police recorded 54,000 racist incidents in England and Wales in 2014/15
  • Yet most incidents go unreported. The CSEW estimates there were nearly 90,000 incidents in 2014/15
  • The 2014/15 CSEW shows that those from mixed ethnic backgrounds had a higher risk of becoming a victim (27.9%) than blacks, Asians or whites (18%, 15.8%, 15.7%)
  • These differences may also be due to other factors: such as being young, male and unemployed are also strongly linked with victimisation
