Who does it affect?
A
Occurs in babies / foetus
Can occur in all ages - those at risk of causes are at greater risk of developing hydronephrosis

What causes it?
A
Pregnancy - more urine produced by foetus
Blockage / backflow caused by: kidney stones, prostatic hypertrophy, narrowed ureters, malignancy, UTI
Congenital causes: neurogenic bladder, VUR

How would you investigate?
A
FBC, U+Es Urinalysis Renal USS Cystoscopy IV urography

What treatments are there?
A
Treat underlying cause (eg stent, prostate removal, US to treat stones)
Catheterisation

A
UTI
Renal cysts
Malignancy
