Q

Name this and state its function.

Pathways? types?

the function of the first pathway?

A

Superior cerebellar peduncle.

Efferent pathway:

  • Sending signals from Deep cerebellar nuclei(2 pathways).

first —>= superior cerebellar peduncle

  • Deep cerebellar nuclei—->superior colliculus.
    • Function: orientation of the head
  • Deep cerebellar nuclei—> thalamus—> primary motor cortex & premotor cortex.

Q

Name this and state its function.

What does it connect?

A

Middle cerebellar peduncle.

  • Afferent pathway, cell bodies that give rise to the pontine nucleus. Controlateral pons.
  • Connect the pons to the cerebellum.

Q

Name this and state its function.

State all components it controls.

A

Medial longitudinal fasciculus.

  • Connects 3 CN responsible for the extraocular muscles of the eye.
    • Oculomotor(III),Trochlear(IV) and Abducens(VI)
  • Also the vestibulocochlear nerve(VIII).

Pathway.?

A

Pyramidal tracts.

  • Voluntary control of the musculature of the body and face.

Descending Pathway: Motor fibres, carrying information from Cortex—>brain and spine–> lower motor neurons.
