In the line 1. e4 e6 2. f4?! what is white’s plan and how should black play to stop it? Also, what added benefit does black’s plan have?
A
White wants to play d4, and prepares it with c3 and Nh3-c2. Black should stop it by playing d4 themselves!
After playing d4, black can follow up with b6 and Bb7, claiming the long diagonal.
