Q

what is acid rain
what are the effects
how can it be prevented

A

WHAT
often found in fossil fuels- contain trace amounts of sulphur. when they are burnt the sulfur is oxidised to sulfur dioxide. is then released in to the atmosphere, dissolves in rain water and falls back as sulphurous acid

EFFECTS
lower the PH of rivers and lakes killing aquatic life
deforestation
damage of limestone and sand stone buildings

PREVENTION
burn less fossil fuels
use more renewable energy sources
pass sulfur gases through and alkaline to neutralise
