Q

Rotational

A
  • Three semicircular canals has enlarged base called ampulla.
  • Each ampulla contains hair cells with sterecilia embedded in gelatinous, bulb like cupula.
  • as fluid canal flows and bends acupula inside the ampulla, the sterocilia are bent.
  • impulses are carried by vestibular nerve to the brain stem and cerebellum.

Q

Gravitational has two sacs are found in the vestibular:

A
  • utricle: sensitive to horizontal movement of head.
  • saccule: sensitive to vertical movement of head.
  • both contain hair cells with stereocilia embedded in an otolithic membrane.
  • calcium carbonate granules( otoliths) rest on the otolithic membrane. When this moves bent the stereocilia.
