1- the avoidance of regularity in part-writing
2-broken chords
3-ambiguous melodic lines
4-rhythmic displacement of pitches within a line
5-avoidance of melodic, harmonic, bass, and textural accent in any combination, except for beginnings and endings of a couplet

Life

A

He belongs to the family Couperin, the most prolific family in French musical history. Louis and François Couperin are the most famous composers. He learned music with his father. Fragile health and not worldly character. Born and died in Paris

A

Most famous book: L’Art de toucher le clavecin (published in 1716). Contains suggestions for fingerings, touch, ornamentation and other features of keyboard technique.
Book Concerts Royaux: can be played as solo harpsichord pieces or as small chamber works
Four volume of Harpsichord music (1713-1730): grouped into suited, admired by Bach.
Many of Couperin’s keyboard piece have evocative titles («les Barricades mystérieuses), express mood through keys. «Poet musician par excellence» who believed in «the ability of music to express itself in prose and poetry».
One collection of organ music: the Pieces d’orgue consistantes en deux messe.
