what are the 3 things required to start a GTE?
fuel, air and an ignition
what are 4 methods to turn a GTE?
electric, gas, fluid, forward motion
on engine start up what component turns first and why?
high pressure compressor, because the compressor drives the turbine and HP is a smaller mass than LP
what does the HP cock do?
used to shut down the engine. stops fuel flow to the engine and is an engine component
What does the LP cock do?
Stops fuel from leaving the tank and is an airframe component
What are four possible starting faults
Ignition failure, fuel delivery failure, over fuelling and failure to reach correct RMP
Why aren’t electrical starters used on large turbofan engines
They don’t provide enough torque
When are turbine temperatures at their highest?
During the engine start due to thermal shock
