Heat intolerance

What are the lab results for hyperthyroidism
High T4, T3, Low TSH
What are the side effects of Carbimazole?
Bone marrow suppression
Rash/ itching (treat with antihistamine)
What are the side effects of propylthiouracil?
Hepatotoxicity
What are the symptoms of Thyrotoxicosis
Tachycardia
Increased HR
Diarrhoea
Heat intolerance
What’s the treatment for Thyrotoxicosis ?
Propranolol, antithyroids , fluid, hydrocortisone, sodium iodide
What should a patient be given before a thyrodectomy?
Iodine 10-14 days before
How is hyperthyroidism treated in pregnancy?
1st trimester : propylthiouracil
2nd trimester : Carbimazole
Avoid block and replacement and iodine
What are the symptoms of hypothyroidism?
Cold intolerance
Weight gain
Constipation
Bradycardia
What are the lab results in hypothyroidism?
Low T4 and T3
High TSH
What are the counselling points with levothyroxine?
30 mins before breakfast or any other meds
Affects absorption
