Q

Explain the dimensions of intelligence

A

Different models for underlying dimensions.

Cognitive performance in different domains have a positive correlation . This suggests abilities have something in common but we have multiple types of abilities based on what the performance is for

Q

What are the two groups of dimensional models of intelligence?

A

General factors of intelligence

  • two factor model(spearman 1904) (performance on test is determined by general factor g and specific factor s
  • fluid and crystallised intelligence (cettels 1963) (fluid = ability to perceive relations independent of previous practise and crystalized practise= ability to use learnt knowledge)

Specific factors

  • seven primary mental abilities
  • multiple intelligences
  • emotional intelligence (cog ability to deal w emotion using three components)
