Q

Resistivity

A

Measures how strong a resistor is

R=pL/A where p is resistivity in n*m, l is length, and A is area

Smaller area-greater resistance
Greater length-greater resistance

Q

Capacitance

A

Store of electrical potential energy

C=Q/V where C is capacitance, Q is charge, and V is voltage

C is also dependent on area. C=£ A/d

Where £ is a constant, A=area, and d=distance

Q

How do we find the electrical potential energy of a capacitor

A

Ec=1/2CV^2
Ec=1/2QV

Where V is the voltage across the capacitor not the voltage of the battery

Q

Capacitors in series

A

Voltage of capacitors in series have to add up to the voltage of the battery

1/Ct=1/C1+1/C2+1/C3…

Q

Capacitors in parallel

A

Each Capacitor in parallel experiences the same voltage as the battery. However, charges are split up between them. A more powerful Capacitor receives more charge.

Ct=C1+C2+C3…

Q

How do dielectrics increase capacitance?

A

Dielectrics are non conducting materials denoted by constant (k) where k is always >1

They increase capacitance by either increasing the charge or lowering the voltage. Remember C=Q/V

Increase in C= (k)C
