A 3.4- Evidenc Flashcards
(3 cards)
What is the definition of evidence?
Evidence includes facts, documentation, or testimony that support a claim or a thesis. Overall, evidence boils down to the materials (proof of validity) a writer has in order to support their positions. Figures, data, anecdotes, research studies, samples—- all of these things and more assist and support an author’s position in their writing.
What is the purpose of evidence?
Without evidence, the world would be a fairly chaotic place. Anyone could claim anything, and how would we disprove their assertions? As mentioned before, a thesis without effective claims and valid evidence is hollow, and it doesn’t amount to anything more than a mere opinion. EVIDENCE IS THE SUPPORT MATERIAL THAT MUST ACCOMPANY THE THESIS AND CLAIMS IN ORDER FOR THEM TO BE CONVINCING AND REASONABLE.
