The people of Athens, a Greek city-states, formed at Democracy in about 507BCE about 2500 years ago.
Definition of democracy
Means rule by the people , not from a king.
Direct democracy
Means citizens voted directly on laws. (In Athens, citizen were only free adult men whose parents were born in Athens).
Representative democracy
Where people vote on representatives who vote on laws for them.
A constitution
A written document that describes the set of laws of the nation.
Civic participation
Meaning citizen had to be active in their government (by voting)
The assembly
Consisted of all citizens. they voted on laws.
The council of 500
a smaller body. it was a full time government that made more important decisions,
The people’s court
Was a court that treated people by larges juries.
A jury
Is a group of ordinary people who make decisions about trials.
