Caprice/Capricious
A sudden and impulsive change in one’s attitude or behavior, often without clear motivation
My father has a capricious temper.
Lucrative
Producing a great deal of wealth or profit
My brother has a very lucrative profession.
Impertinent
Being disrespectful; marked by rude boldness
The women stared at the man in a impertinent manner.
Sully/Sullied
To make soiled or tarnished, particularly in the sense of damaging one’s reputation
The scandal was exposed, and the company’s reputation was sullied.
Prevaricate
To deviate from the truth; to lie
I always prevaricate when telling my brother something, which is why he doesn’t trust me.
Obstinate
Stubborn or tenacious unwillingness to yield; unreasonable persistance

To indirectly suggest or hint something bad or unpleasant

To treat someone as if they are a child or infant, denying their maturity in age or experience

Severe or strict in manner, attitude, and/or appearance
My new teacher seemed to be extremely austere.
Paternalistic
A system positing that authority knows the best; limiting and restricting a person or group’s liberty and freedom
The doctor is being paternalistic, not letting me decide my own course of action regarding my health.
Zeal/Zealous
Intense enthusiasm and eagerness, often in pursuing a goal or cause
The man is a zealous advocate for his clients.
Innocuous
Producing no injury; not harmful or offensive in any manner or degree
The remark was innocuous.
