Elena & Kip went to Boston to lead the Lexington Church of Christ. The first Devotional
in the Gempels’ living room was on June 1, 1979 and had “30 would be disciples.”

One church becomes 392 churches, 1 nation into 171 nations, 30 disciples to 135,000

-Average congregation – 150 members
Baptisms a year – 8 (2 outsiders and 6 are children of the members)

ICOC 2000:
LA ICOC – 10,000 disciples with 14,000 in attendance
Manila ICOC – 5,000 disciples with 7,000 attendance
Most extraordinary: 40 Congregations with more than 1,000 attendance – half in USA
and the other half outside the USA
ICOC 2003:
Every ICOC Congregation lost at least half its members. Of note: Portland’s membership
fell from 300 members to 25.

I. God Scatters…
Who destroyed the temple of Jerusalem?

God scatters His people when they become unfaithful, and He gathers them when they repent
We are called to do the work of God: to gather the remnant.
Hardships’ purpose is to produce: ( Heb12:7)
- Holiness
- Righteousness
- Peace
Heb 12:15
Hardships either make you a “better Christian” or a “bitter Christian”
Do not look at people as the problem, look up and see what you are to learn from God:
God is perfect
-the movement is composed of imperfect men.
Leadership should not be a Christian’s primary identity?
it should be that one is a
saved son or daughter of God.
God smashes idols…
Do not let men idolize you.
Give mercy to the weak (“Laban Principle” )?
Jacob was put under a worse
deceiver – Laban – and never deceives again
