What is a natural hazard?
An extreme natural event that can cause damage to properties, loss of life and disrupt human activity.
How are different types of hazards classified?
tectonic hazards, hydrological hazards, atmospheric hazards, biological hazards, geomorphological hazards.
What factors affect hazard risk?
Geographical location of the areas; natural factors like topography and geology; magnitude of the event; the time of day or season it takes place; level of wealth or development of the area; education on reducing impacts; frequency of natural hazards; population and population density.
Why do people want to remain in areas with hazard risks?
They can’t move due to money or a lack of knowledge; they don’t want to go as they are overconfident in defenses or too optimistic; it’s worth staying due to resources like a farm, jobs and family.
