VCUG
Voiding Cystourethrogram
AN exam that takes images of the urinary system.
UTI
Urinary Tract Infection
Common infections that happen when bacteria, often from the skin or rectum, enter the urethra and infect the urinary tract.
Ex. Bladder Infection of Cystitis
UA
Urinalysis
A simple test that looks at a small sample of the urine;
Find infections or kidney problems or serious diseases
AKA Urine Test.
RP
Retrograde Pyelogram
An imagine test that uses X Rays to look at your bladder, ureters, and kidneys.
PD
Peritoneal Dialysis
Treatment for kidney failure that uses the lining of your abdomen or belly to filter your blood insider your body.
MSU
Mid Stream Urine
Don’t collect the first or last part of the urine that comes out. Mid part collection.
KUB
Kidney Ureter Bladder (X-ray)
X ray images of the kidneys and urinary tract made without the use of contrast material.
IVP
Intravenous Pyelogram
X-ray exam that uses an injection of contrast material to evaluate your kidneys, ureters, and bladder and help diagnose blood in the urine or pain in the side of the lower back.
HD
Hemodialysis
Procedure where a dialysis machine and a special filter (artificial kidney) or a dialyzer are used to clean your blood.
GFR
Glomerular Filteration Rate
Blood test that checks how well the kidneys are working.
Kidneys have tiny filters called glomeruli that remove waste and extra H2O from blood via urine.
CKD
Chronic Kidney Disease
A condition in which the kidneys are damaged and cannot filter blood as well as they should;
Excess fluid and waste from blood remain in the body and can cause health problems ie. heart attack and stroke.
ARF
Acute Renal Failure
Denotes a sudden and often reversible reduction in kidney function, as measured by glomerular filteration rate.
Also known as Acute Kidney Injury (AKI)
PD
Peritoneal Dialysis
An intra-abdominal catheter delivers a special fluid into the abdominal cavity.
After several hours the fluid containing waste materials that have seeped into it from the blood is drained.
