Abortion 2 Flashcards
(10 cards)
What is the heartbeat law?
A law that bans abortion after the first heartbeat of a baby (at 5-6 weeks), in some states in America (for e.g. Texas).
What happened in the Roe v Wade case?
Norma Mcorvey (or Jane Roe), fought against Henry Wade (the district attorney of Dallas, Texas, who put in the law against abortion), so women had abortion rights in the USA.
Where did she live and why did she want an abortion
She lived in Texas and she wanted an abortion because she said she was raped and didn’t want to go through the trauma of raising that child. She also had 2 other children which she thought was enough.
What did Roe try to do but was unsuccessful
Try to get a legal abortion
What happened to conclude that case
You could have an abortion but it depends on the trimester you’re in (chosen by Texas).
What happens in 0-12 weeks
In the first trimester a woman can choose if she wants to have an abortion
What happens in 13-27 weeks
In the second trimester the government you can only have it if it affects your health.
What happens in 28-40 weeks
In the third trimester you can’t have an abortion
What do traditional Christian’s believe about abortion?
Traditional Christians believe in the idea of the sanctity of life and they believe only God has the right to take away and give life. Therefore, Conservative Christians wouldn’t believe in the idea of abortion because they think it’s murder and they believe in the idea of ‘don’t kill’
What do liberal Christian’s believe about abortion?
They believe that it might be okay if you’re raped . This is because they believe you should have agape love for each other and if you do you wouldn’t want to see a person in mental pain. Some Christian’s would also believe that God is omnibenevolent ( all loving) and wouldn’t want to see you suffer.
