(7 cards)
What is secularization? What is religious pluralism?
Secularization is the decreased influence of religion in the public space. Then religious pluralism is the celebration of religious diversity.
What is the goal of the “Abrahamic Religions” movement?
To bring Jews, Christians and Muslims together.
Describe the three common themes of Abrahamic Religions.
1) that they all have one point of origin which is Abraham
2) That all these religions have “ethical Monothesism”
3) Then they all share the same god.
Describe several ways in which Abraham is a problem for the Abrahamic Religions movement.
1) The name abraham was mostly used for religious propaganda and is not historical
2) The religions never agree to share Abraham
3) Abraham is not depicted in the religions to be a moral shared sense of heritage
4) Abraham is someone different in each of the religions
Explain why the concept of “monotheism” creates difficulties for the Abrahamic Religions movement.
Because each of the religions have completely different definitions of what monotheism means to them.
Explain why the concept of “ethical” monotheism creates problems for the Abrahamic Religions movement.
Because its saying that being monotheistic is ethical but really being moral is not based on religion. The moodle says that this is really stupid.
According to Jon Levenson, Abrahamic Religions is not really about Judaism, Christianity, or Islam. Instead, he says, Abrahamic Religions is a variety of what?
it is religious humanism used to support human unity and the importance placed on Abraham is misplaced.
