What is Rule 102?
The Conduct and General Responsibilities of Department Personnel.
Who does Rule 102 apply to?
All members of BPD, sworn and civilian.
What is required regarding conduct?
Conduct must be favorable on and off duty.
What constitutes Neglect of Duty?
When you are supposed to do something and you don’t, or you do something you’re not supposed to do.
Who is accountable for subordinate actions?
Superior officers are accountable for their subordinate’s actions.
What is the residency requirement for BPD personnel?
Must live in Boston. Change of address/phone must be notified in 24 hours.
What must be done regarding Directives and Orders?
Must obey orders, appeal improper orders, and notify of conflicting orders.
How should all individuals be treated?
Must treat ALL respectfully at ALL times, on/off duty.
What are the requirements for reporting for duty?
Report on time, be fit for duty, properly equipped, accountable for orders, and cannot work more than 18 hours in a 24-hour period.
What is the 90 Hour Rule?
Cannot work more than 90 hours in 1 week; includes missed tours due to illness, suspension, or admin leave.
What is prohibited regarding uniform attire?
No earrings or studs in uniform.
What is the policy on sleeping on duty?
May NEVER sleep on duty.
What is the policy on alcohol and tobacco use?
Never use alcohol on duty and never use tobacco anytime.
What is the policy on alcohol use off duty?
Must not be obnoxious, offensive, or discrediting.
What is prohibited regarding alcohol storage?
Can NOT store alcohol at any police property or vehicle.
What is the policy on drug use?
Can NOT use drugs; prescriptions must be used correctly.
What is required when responding to calls of service?
Must respond to any call of service or help.
What is prohibited regarding personal business while on duty?
Can NOT engage in personal business while on duty.
What is the policy on public opinions?
Do not publicly state your opinions.
What information must be provided in an official capacity?
Name, Rank, Badge # in a civil manner; must carry ID at all times.
What is the policy on charitable contributions?
Can give to charity but not in uniform; don’t solicit anything.
What is the policy on accepting gifts?
NO GIFTS! If someone tries to bribe you, report to supervisor.
What is required regarding truthfulness in reports?
Submit all reports on time; reports must be truthful and complete.
