A

TK Maxx is an international company that has luxury branded clothes at great prices, discounts can be more than 50% off the retail price. When a designer overproduces, or other stores overbuy, you swoop in, negotiate the lowest possible price, and pass the savings on. Because the brand is so big, there is a high level of diversity within the stores and so everyone is treated equally and with dignity.

Tell me about a time when you had to organise your workload.

A

In my first year of uni, I got my first job at T2 Tea during a busy Christmas period which is also when exams begin. I made sure that I knew what my priorities were, uni first, work second, so I always made sure that my job would work around my revision time wherever it was possible. I had to be extremely organised and plan my time efficiently so I could work as productively as possible during Christmas, and make sure my revision was up to par.

What previous relevant experience do you have?

A

I’m comfortable working with international brands such as T2 and Junaid Jamshed, these were both during busy periods such as Christmas and Eid, my current job also involves providing prospective students and parents with campus tours and answer their questions about my university in general. This means I have developed the skill to retain information and present it according to the customer I am serving in a way that they feel is personal to them.

Time you were in a difficult situation.

A

At J. there was an argument between two colleagues in front of the customers. This made me quite frustrated as it reflects poorly on our team but in that situation, I calmed myself down and made sure they were working at two separate areas of the store because at that time our main priority were the customers, especially during such a busy period. Later on I informed my manager because I didn’t want to add to the tension by trying to mediate and being seen as nosey etc. I think for me, it highlighted the importance of getting to know your team because it helps you understand how you can work together in the most productive way by playing to everyone’s strengths.

Time you went above and beyond for someone

A

There were many incidents where I had to serve customers who were shopping for guests, and since T2 has such a large variety, it can be quite overwhelming. I always make sure to ask general questions about taste preferences and I always find that brewing samples for them to taste and asking questions about their plans really personalises the experience for them which makes it worth the extra time and effort it takes.

A

Personally, I am willing to go above and beyond for anyone who is hardworking and treats everyone with kindness, no matter who they are. My current job is to make sure that I aid students with the transferrable skills to move onto university and work life. This includes checking over personal statements and CVs, I also make sure to find jobs and career paths that link into their interests.

Tell me about a time you have seen a company deliver great customer service.

A

I always enjoy my shopping experience when you can tell that the sales associates are genuinely interested in ensuring you purchase the right product for you. This means they remain quite attentive and ask specific questions about your preferences. Another thing is when they know their stock inside and out and can automatically picture what you’re looking for simply through our answers.

What do you think good communication is?

A

Good communication involves altering your approach according to the demographic. But having good communication within a team is a significant aspect to the quality of customer service as we should all work as a cohesive unit. This involves listening attentively, delegating tasks clearly and another aspect is having confidence, giving one another constructive feedback in a friendly manner. It also involves the ability to get along with difficult customers or colleagues.

How do you feel when you walk into TK Maxx?

A

Whenever I walk into TK Maxx, it almost feels like I’m on the hunt for a bargain, almost like finding a hidden gem or treasure. I honestly have quite a good time looking at the price tags of very luxury brands because the deals you can get are amazing. And another thing I notice is that the staff are so approachable and ready to help, which just adds to the experience.

What are your weaknesses?

A

I am a perfectionist, I always like to make a list of tasks to complete throughout the day, so if any are incomplete, or I feel as though I haven’t completed them to the best of my ability, then it is frustrating for me.

What would your friends and family say about you?

A

My family would say that I’m quite resilient and hardworking, I feel like I’m always faced with new challenges, whether it’s to do with my career, university, or my personal life. I think I try to balance my logical side with my more emotional side, and that just works out for me. I think my friends would say that I am loyal, and I listen to their problems with no judgement, I’d like to think that they’re comfortable talking to me about anything.

How do you feel when you walk into Accessorize?

A

Personally, I love browsing through Accessorize because their pieces really reflect my style, I always find that the quality is great. The customer service is always so welcoming, when my sister came to get a piercing, I remember our server was so accommodating and friendly. The jewellery is always wrapped so carefully, so we can all see that you care for your products.

Tell me about a time where you demonstrated good customer service.

A

I served an older couple who were doing their Christmas shopping at T2 for their daughter, and they were quite overwhelmed just because there are so many varieties of teas. So I started off by offering them some samples and asking them general questions about their daughter’s preferences – what does she like to eat? Does she have a sweet tooth?
I found that by having them try the samples themselves, not only were they enjoying themselves, but it also painted a clear picture of the perfect present without having to push them too much. They actually came back to the store with their daughter after Christmas for some tea for themselves.

A

I’m in my final year of Economics at the University of Birmingham and I commute so I’ve been here my whole life. I always like to keep busy, I was actually meant to be in France for a summer school but they moved it all online.
