Acids And Bases Flashcards
(10 cards)
Two examples of every day acids
E.g lemon juice and vinegar
Two examples of everyday bases
Toothpaste , bleach
Two examples of lab acids
Hydrocloric acid , sulfuric acid
Two examples of lab bases
Sodium hydroxide, calcium hydroxide
Explain acids ( e.g taste, are they dangerous?)
Acids have a sharp bitter taste
Only some are dangerous , many are harmless
Explain bases
Bases are the chemical opposite of acids
Bases that dissolve In water are known as alkali
PH scale
Acidity and basicity scale
Ranges from 0.1 to 14
A PH value on or close to the edge of the scale is dangerous to life
Anything at 7 in neutral and is neither an acid nor base
What are titrations ?
Titrations allow you to find out how much acid is needed to neutralise a base
What is an indicator ( explanation not example )
A chemical that changed colour based on the PH of a substance
