Q

How does an acid produce salt

A

acids contain H⁺ ions when in a solution and when they react (get neutralised) the H⁺ gets replaced by a different cation and the resulting ionic compound is a salt

Q

Making soluble salts method

A

add the acid and insoluble base e.g. add excess copper sulphate to sulphuric acid -> warm and filter to get rid off excess CuO -> evaporate off most of the solution -> leave for crystals to form

Q

Making insoluble salts method

A

precipitate reaction -> filter ppt -> wash and dry e.g. NaCl + AgNO3 -> AgCl

Q

Making soluble salts method titration

A

acid and alkali titration -> find end point using indicator -> repeat without indicator -> evaporate off solution -> leave for crystals to form
