Management of rosacea? (3)
Mild- topical metronidazole
Topical brimodine for patients with flushing but limited telangiectasia
More severe disease- oral antibiotics e.g. oxytetracycline
Which class of antibiotics should be avoided with retinoids?
Tetracyclines e.g. doxycycline
Commonest side-effects of retinoids?
Dry skin/eyes/lips/mouth
Management of hidradenitis?
Topical antibiotics e.g. clindamycin for 3 months
Oral or intra-lesional steroids can be used for severe flares
How should antibiotics be prescribed for acne?
Should not combine oral + topical
Also do not use either oral or topical as monotherapy
Management: mild to moderate acne
12 week course of either:
a) topical adapalene + benzoyl peroxide
b) topical tretinoin + topical clindamycin
c) topical clindamycin + benzoyl peroxide
Antibiotic options for moderate to severe acne?
Either oral limecycline or doxycycline, in combination with topical benzoyl peroxide + adapalene or topiucal azelaic acid
Adverse effects of doxycycline in acne?
Can cause a photosensitive reaction
Options for acne in pregnant women?
Erythromycin; trimethoprim
How should co-cyprindiol be used for acne?
In women who have failed to improve on other treatments; discontinue 3months after control is achieved
