BIP
Behavior Intervention Plan
LRE
Least Restrictive Environment: Students with disabilities must be educated with children without disabilities to the maximum extent appropriate to make progress in the general education curriculum
ABA
Applied Behavior Analysis
RTI
Response to Intervention, systematic strategy utilized to help students who are struggling improve. Can be used as one component to determine eligibility for special education but primary focus should be for student growth/improvement
IEP
Individualized Education Program– Plan that is utilized by schools to guide educational services for students with disabilities
FAPE
Free and Appropriate Public Education- Special Education Services that are provided at public expense must meet standards of that state’s educational agency. Must be available to preschool, elementary, and secondary levels and must follow individual education plans
ASD
Autism Spectrum Disorder, disability manifesting is social/communication challenges and repetitive restrictive behaviors
AAC
Augmentative and Alternative Communication, devices and strategies used to facilitate communication for children who are not using oral language for communication
IFSP
Individualized Family Service Plan- early intervention services and planning for an infant/toddler to three years old and their family
IDEA
Individuals with Disabilities Education Act– the law that requires special education services
IDEIA 2004
Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act, amendments to the previous laws for students with disabilities and the current set of laws we utilize in schools today.
Tier 1
Supports used in the classroom that help all learners be successful. Some Tier One supports need to be added to classrooms if they are missing as part of RTI
Tier II
Targeted supports for children who are struggling that attempt to address a documented needs of the learner
Tier III
Intensive and specialized supports for those who do not respond to Tier I and Tier II, includes the traditional services of school psychologists and SpEd teachers. “Learning Disability” label is not used until Tier III
