Act 2: Specimen Accessioning and Gross Examination Flashcards
(25 cards)
This is where the samples are received and registered
LAB RECEPTION
Number of your casette slides and the stage. Labeling of cassettes are also done here
SPECIMEN PREPARATION
Where your Pathologist cuts up the specimen and dictate the macrodescription, Photograph and Annotate the section
GROSSING
Where your specimen from the auto Technicon will be immersed into a mold with a liquid paraffin wax. This is for external support so that the tissue will crumble during microtuning or section cutting
EMBEDDING
Tissue slices are added with colors or dyes for enhanced visualization
STAINING
Stained slides will be coated with transparent mounting medium
MOUNTING
Slides will be examined under the microscope by the Pathologist
PATHOLOGIST REPORTING
Creations of your final report will happen and signed by your Pathologist
SECRETARY OFFICE
Samples are received and registered
LAB RECEPTION
Where the tissue passes through various chemicals for fixation, dehydration, clearing and infiltration
AUTOMATIC TISSUE PROCESSOR
Specimen are sectioned by giving them a serialm number
SPECIMEN ACCESSIONING
Comes with the examination of your cadaver
AUTOPSY PATHOLOGY
This is where most of the Histopath specimen are resected from a live person
SURGICAL PATHOLOGY
This is where we write all the annotations during gross examination and the microscopic description done by the Pathologists
WORKSHEET
What should be the maximum number of hour/s for the specimen to be delivered to the laboratory? TYPE THE NUMBER HOUR
1 HOUR
Medtechs can also perform the gross examination in:
APPENDIX, TISSUE SCRAINGS, AND OTHER SMALL SPECIMENS
Is intergrated into the grossing system to evaluate the margins of resection in microscopy. Performed in malignancies and specimen is covered with an ink to mark the margins of the specimen
INKING
Means inspecting the specimens, describing and measuring the tissue
GROSSING
Provides information that aidds the Pathologist in rendering a diagnosis during the microscopic evaluation of the tissue
GROSS EXAMINATION
Look for presence of fibrin or pus
EXTERNAL SURFACE
Check the condition of mesentery
PERFORATION
Check for any localized lesions
WALL
Check if the mucosa is hyperemic or ulcerated
MUCOSA
Close to surgical margin, one cross section
PROXIMAL 1/3
