Hamlet reveals the body, Claudius sends him away. (10 cards)
How do we know that Claudius thinks Hamlet is dangerous?
“How dangerous is it that this man goes loose.”
Why can’t Claudius restrain or punish Hamlet?
“Yet must not put the strong law on him. He’s loved of the distracted multitude”

“deliberate pause”
When Claudius asks Hamlet where Polonius is, how does Hamlet joke about it?
C: “Where’s Polonius?”
H: “At Supper… not where he eats, but where ‘a is eaten”
How does Hamlet link back to the idea of the futility of life?
“We fat all creatures else to fat us, and we fat ourselves for maggots… a man may fish with the worm that hath eat of a king, and eat of the fish that hath fed of that worm.”
“how a king may go a progress through the guts of a beggar” - in death everyone is equal
Where does Hamlet reveal is the body?
“if indeed you find him not within this month, you shall nose him as you go up the stairs into the lobby”
How does Claudius speak calmly to Hamlet to tell him about him leaving? How is this manipulative of him?
“for thine special safety, which we do tender… must send thee hence with fiery quickness… for England” - manipulative because we know he’s sending him to be executed. (which he reveals later in the soliloquy)
Who does Hamlet say bye to? Why is this odd?
“Farewell dear mother” - she’s not in the room.
How does Claudius correct Hamlet when he says by to his not present mother? What does Hamlet say in response and what does this do?
“Thy loving father, Hamlet”
“My mother- father and mother is man and wife, man and wife is one flesh; and so, my mother.”
What does Claudius reveal in his soliloquy?
“England… since yet thy cicatrice looks raw and red after the danish sword… thou mayst not coldly set our sovereign process, which imports at full… the present death of Hamlet” - as a demand to England, especially after they were beat by the Danes, they need to execute Hamlet.
“Till I know ‘tis done… my joys were ne’er begun” - he can’t relax until its done.
