Active Directory Domain Service: Acts as a catalog for the objects on the network
What are some common objects? (5)
- Users
- Groups
- Machines

What types of entities can Users represent?
People
Services: All services require a User to run
What is a security principal
An object that can be:
1. Authenticated by the domain.
2. Can be assigned priviliges over resources like files or printers
What are some qualities of machine objects?
- They are security principals
- Machines have their own accounts and are local admins
- Their naming convention is the computers name followed by a $
What is an organizational unit?
A container object used to classify other objects and assign shared policy settings
What is the difference between security groups and organizational units?
OUs: useful for applying specific policy configurations
SGs: used to grant permissions over resources
What is a GPO?
Group Policy Object
A collection of setting that can be applied to an OU
How are GPOs distributed to the network?
Via a network share called SYSVOL
