Active Transport Flashcards
(4 cards)
What does active transport need?
Energy.
What is active transport?
Active transport moves substances from a more dilute solution to a more concentrated one. Against the concentration gradient.
Where is active transport needed in plants?
In plants that needed more nitrates and ions from the soil into the root hair cell. This process needs to be continuous and requires active transportation.
Where is active transport needed in humans?
Sugar such as glucose is always actively absorbed out your gut and kidney tubules in your blood. This is often done against the concentration gradient.
The concentration of glucose in your blood is kept steady, so it sometimes is higher than the concentration of glucose in your gut.
