Acu 3 common cold, cough, asthma with panting and short breath, asthma with sputum noise in the throat Flashcards
(123 cards)
Etiology of the common cold
exogenous ailment due to lowered superficial resistance and the invasion of exogenous pathogenic facotrs
Invasion of wind cold
Cold is a yin evil which coagulates and shrinks, so skin pores are closed and lung qi is trapped after wine cold attacks superficial region, tongue should be normal in the beginning stage, pain and headache
Invasion of wind heat
heat is a yang evil, so when wind heat invades, it leads to failrue of dispersing and descending of lung, over open of skin pores
Invasion of summer dampness
summer heat always combines with dampness, dampness is a yin factor which is heavy and turbid, so invasion of summer dampness can lead to blockage of yang qi and abnormal of lung and defensive qi, and it is very difficult to dispel
Common symptoms of all pathogenic evils
simultaneous chills and fever, aversion to cold, floating pulse
Signs and symptoms: aversion to cold, fever, no perspiration, headache with body-ache, nasal congestion and discharge, sneezing, thin and white tongue coating, floating and tight or floating and relaxed pulse
Wind cold restricting the superficial region
Wind cold restricting the superficial region principle of treatment
expel wind and disperse cold, relax the superficial region and expand the lungs
Wind cold restricting the superficial region meridians
lung and large intestine
Wind cold restricting the superficial region points
LU 7: external restriction of cold pathogen, expand the lung energy
LI 20: external restriction of cold pathogen, expand the lung energy
SI 7: relationship with the Du channel (SI 3 is usually better)
UB 12: external wind, superficial region, dispel cold
GB 20: internal and external wind
LI 4: expel wind, expand the lung, relax the superficial region, reduce heat
Wind cold restricting the superficial region points techniques of treatment
sedation acupuncture (shallow for a short time)
moxibustion
cupping on UB 12
Signs and symptoms: fever, aversion to wind, perspiration, distending pain of head, nasal congestion and yellow discharge, sore throat and swelling of tonsils, cough, red sides and tip of tongue with thin and white or yellow coating, floating and rapid pulse
Wind heat offending the lungs
Wind heat offending the lungs principles of treatment
disperse wind heat, clear and benefit lung energy
Wind heat offending the lungs meridians
LU, LI DU
Wind heat offending the lungs points
LU 5: excess syndrome of lung (heat and phlegm), clear heat, relax the superficial region and clear lungs, benefit the throat and stop cough
LU 10: clear heat, relax the superficial region and clear lungs, benefit the throat and stop cough
LI 11: relax the superficial region and sedate heat
Du 14: relax the superficial region and sedate heat
SJ5: relax the superficial region and sedate heat
Wind heat offending the lungs techniques of treatment
sedation acupuncture
blood letting at Du 14, Lu 10, LI 11
cupping
Signs and symptoms: dizziness, distention and heavy feeling of the head, nasal congestion and discharge, aversion to cold with fever, or mild hot sensation of the body, perspiration or light perspiration, cognested chest and nausea, yellow and greasy coating, soft and rapid pulse
Summer heat and dampness invading the superficial region
Summer heat and dampness invading the superficial region principle of treatment
clear summer heat and transform dampness, disperse superficial region and harmonize the internal
Summer heat and dampness invading the superficial region meridians
LU, ST
Summer heat and dampness invading the superficial region points
LU 6, LI 4: summer heat and dampness harming the superficial region with the lungs, clear summer heat and transform dampness
Ren 12: internal accumulation of summer heat and dampness causing breakdown of upward and downward movements
ST 36: strengthen the stomach, transform dampness and bring down turbidity
SJ 6: regulate the energy of the SJ, expels summer heat and transform dampness (can also use SJ5 together)
Summer heat and dampness invading the superficial region technique of treatment
neutral acupuncture
what are the two types of cough
- as a result from an attack by exogenous pathogenic factors disturbing the dispersion of qi of the lung
- disorders of the lung itself, or other diseased zang fu organs affecting the lung
what are the two types of cough caused by exogenous pathogenic factors
- wind cold
2. wind heat
Signs and symptoms: cough with heavy noise, coughing out thin white phlegm, accompanied by headache and nasal congestion, aversion to chills with fever, no perspiration, thin white coating, floating and tight pulse
Wind cold cough
wind cold cough principle of treatment
relax the superficial region and disperse cold, expand the lungs and stop cough
