Adaptations Flashcards
(7 cards)
What are Buttress roots in the tropical rainforest?
Very wide roots which go deep underground this allows them to absorb more nutrients
What do Waxy coating and pointed leaf tips do (Tropical rainforest)
Helps plants resist rain (without waxy layer leaves would absorb too much water, become too heavy and fall) pointed leaves funnel water off leaves.
Smooth layer of thin bark (tropical rainforest)
Helps rain run off the tree easier to ensure that the tree doesn’t absorb too much water
How have climbing vines adapted in the Tropical rainforest.
Growing up other tree trunks conserves energy and allows them to reach sunlight for photosynthesis
Tamarin and howler monkeys (tropical rainforest)
Only live in high trees to avoid predators. Also have strong limbs and tailed to help them climb
How have Flying squirrels adapt to live in the tropical rainforest.
Have Wings made out of skin which are a bit like a wing suit
Sloths (tropical rainforest)
Nocturnal therefore they preserve energy and only hunt when temperatures are low at night
