Adaptations, interdependence and competition Flashcards
(27 cards)
Habitat is the place where an organism lives
.
The population is all the organisms of one species living in a habitat
.
Community is the populations of different species living in a habitat
.
Abiotic factors are non-living factors of the environment such as temperature
.
Biotic factors are living factors of the environment such as food
.
Organisms compete for resources to survive
.
Organisms need things from their environment and other organisms in order to survive
.
Plants need light and space as well as minerals from the soil
.
Animals need territory, food, water, and mates
.
Organisms compete with other species and members of their own species for the same resources
.
Any change in any environment can have a knock-on efffect
.
In a community, each species relies on other species for things like food and shelter
.
Abiotic Factors can vary in an ecosystem
.
Abiotic factors are non-living such as Moisture level, Light Intensity, Temperature, Carbon Dioxide levels, Wind intensity, Oxygen levels, and Soil PH
.
Different Organisms are adapted to different abiotic conditions
.
Changes in Abiotic factors can affect populations
.
A change in environment could be an increase or decrease in an abiotic factor for example an increase in light intensity
.
Animals rely on plants for food so a decrease in plant population could affect the animal species in a community
.
A decrease in light intensity, temperature, or carbon dioxide levels would decrease the rate of photosynthesis in a plant as this would affect the plant growth and decrease the population size
.
Examples of Biotic factors are New Predators arriving, competition, new pathogens, and availability of food
.
Adaptions allow organisms to survive
.
The Features and characteristics that allow them to do this are called adaptations
.
Structural is the features of an organism’s body
.
Behavioural is the way an organism behaves such as swallows migrating to warmer climates during the winter
.
