Nine Rules of medication administration. 
Deltoid site

Controlled substance act
Controlled substances, a behavior altering or addictive drug or chemical substance, whose possession and use are prohibited by a regulated under the federal control substances act

Carpuject or tubex is needed to dispense the medication
Patient verification
Ask patients or parents/guardians to state their full name and date of birth 
Right education
Before administering the medication to the patient, the medical assistant must give the patient the name of the medication, and who ordered it describe common side effects of medication, verify the patient allergies explained the desired effect or action of the medication 
Scored tablet
A notched tablet which can be split into half with a pill, cutter or splitter
Enteric coated
Coated to pass through the acidic environment of the stomach breaks down in the base environment of the intestines. These tablets should not be crushed, cut or chewed, because the protected property will be lost. 
VIS charting

Preparing a powdered medication
 A powder medication needs to be mixed with a dilute typically sterile, normal saline or sterile water is used as a dilute. 
Intradermal injection sites

Cleaning patient’s skin
IM administration techniques
 Use a 90° angle for entry the skin should be flattened or stretched over the side with the non-dominant hand being safe, minimizing pain and finding the correct side 
SubQ administration techniques 
Pinch side if 2 inches of tissue can be pinched. Insert the needle at a 90° angle of 1 inch of tissue can be pinched. Insert the needle a 45° angle rotate sides. 
Administering buccal medications

Administering a transdermal patch 
Transdermal medication‘s are placed on the skin and absorbed into the bloodstream 
Suppository administration to a small child 
Use the gloved little finger to insert the medication. rectal suppositories should be advanced about 2 inches 
Administering nasal medication’s 
Drugs given via the Nazzaro are breathe in through the nose, the medication is absorbed through the nasal mucus membrane
Applying topical medication’s
Applying a drug to the mucus membrane, or the skin is consider use of topical route absorption through the mucus membrane is usually faster than the skin topical medication’s provide a local effect 
Waiting time after an injection
Having the patient wait 15 minutes after an injection allows you to monitor for unusual symptoms
