Adrenaline 1:10,000 Flashcards

1
Q

What’ class of medication is ADX?

A

Sympathomemetic

It mimics the sympathetic System: e.g hHR increases, bronchiole dilation,

Not so important in cardiac arrest:

liver releases glucose, pupil dilate.
Digestion & kidneys inhibited !

Q

Do agonists block or activate receptors in the body ?

A

Activate !

They lock into the receptors that then activate a response

Antagonists block those receptors in the body causing no reaction

Q

Is ADX a agonist or antagonist drug ?

A

Agonist drug that stimulates the following:

  • Alpha 1 (Body)

(pupil dilation, liver glucose release, digestion inhibiting & kidney relaxation
Vasoconstriction = ⬆️SVR ultimately BP

  • Beta 1: (heart) ⬆️HR
  • Beta 2: (lungs) bronchiole dilation

Q

What does Inotropic agents do to the ❤️ ?

A

Changes the Force of contraction

Google:
change the force of your heart’s contractions. There are 2 kinds of inotropes: positive inotropes and negative inotropes. Positive inotropes strengthen the force of the heartbeat. Negative inotropes weaken the force of the heartbeat.

Q

What does a dromotropic agent do?
Hint: think electric

A

Canvas info:

Rate of conduction through the AV node

Google: -

Is one which affects the conduction speed (in fact the magnitude of delay) in the AV node, and subsequently the rate of electrical impulses in the heart.

Q

What effect does bathmotropic have on the heart ?

Hint: excited

A

Myocardial excitability

Not contraction as excitability is related to the action potential of the cells so relates to the signal going to the muscle as supposed to the actual contraction its self

Q

What ADX do we give in ROSC
1:10,000 or 1:1000 and how ?

A

1mg in 10 mls is given from the 1:10,000 drawn up via 3 way tap

Supports circulation

Q

What question do you want to ask yourself when a patients in ROSC?

To help you with your treatment of them ?
4 words

A

Pump or fluid problem

Fluid problem I.e: sepsis, distributive shock = lost volume so they need fluids. ADX won’t do too much

After 2L if it ain’t helping give ADX

Pump: Thrombus (MI cardiac arrest cause)
BP: give a bolus of fluids but if we keep on giving fluids it will not be good and cause fluid overload (x1 bolus 250mls)

Then…adx to promote those alpha1, B1&2 to have an effect
1mg from 10mls of 1:10,000
