ADT 2 Flashcards
(26 cards)
What is the definition of or how can a hazard be described?
Anything that that has the potential to cause harm to
Health
Environment
Life
Property
Why must a seatbelt be worn at all times, even with the cab door closed?
Keep operator in the seat, stops you being flung around the cab if you roll over which minimise risk of injury
On start-up, the air pressure on the machine is low
What actions must operator carry out before work and during the work
Insured the air pressure is full before starting work and to constantly check pressure during work
What is a possible consequence of using a tyre with a deep cut in the sidewall
Shop stones or debris could enter the cut causing a blowout(failure of the sidewall/rapid deflation)
Causing loss of control , potential tip over
Why should a dump truck be refilled at the end of the day?
To minimise condensation built-up in the fuel system
How can a qualification or card benefit a plant operator?
Proof of skills
Credibility
Better employment prospects
Could get you a promotion
Proof competency
Give two examples of where the work at height regulations may apply to dumptrucks
Access/egress to the cab(getting in or out of the cab)
To gain an access to the engine compartment
To gain access to the body of the dump truck to perform maintenance
Name four different type or levels of disciplinary actions or sanctions that can be applied(by employer and judicial bodies) to operators of plants who do not comply with or follow legislation and regulations
Verbal warning
Written warning
Dismissal (sacked)
Prosecution
Many dump trucks have a turbo charged engine.
What is the nominal procedure before switching off the engine after working, and what happens if the procedure is not followed?
Let the engine idle for a few minutes before switching off
It damages or shorten the life of the turbo
If check the oil level using a dipstick, why must gloves be worn?
To stop skin diseases(dermatitis) and to stop getting onto the controls(cross contamination)
What is regarded as the most productive position for the dump truck to be in when being loaded by a wheeled loading showel from a stockpile?
45° angle to where the loading shovel enters the stockpile
State the purpose of a heated body
To keep material warm, to stop certain materials sticking to the skip when tipping.
To keep asphalt warm
State the purpose of a retarder and
The possible consequences of not using it when required
Device that provides a partial braking system on steep slope
If not used the normal brakes have to be used causing unnecessary wear and tear on the brakes . this could lead to failure leading to loss of grip/control on steep slopes
Where should the dump trucks operators manual be kept on? Why?
Operators manual should be kept inside the machine or in the side office for easy access(everyone knows where it is)
In what situation does a hardhat not need to be worn when operating a dump truck?
In a fully enclosed that meets the fops specification
Falling object protection structure
Why should the body of the dump truck be raised slowly/carefully specially with wet or sticky material, and what would be a consequence if this was not done?
Materials could stick or jam in the skip
The rear chassis/body (and possibly the cab) could tip over
Before leaving the cab for a rest break, after parking and switching off the machine
What final action must be carried out and why?
And secure the plant
Isolate the plant/remove dead man
To prevent unauthorised use and theft
When would the body safety struts or support be used?
When carrying out inspection or any work under or raised body/skip(repairs/maintenance)
Who should determine the maximum load that should be placed into the body of the dump truck?
ADT operator
Operators should lower the body fully before driving away
Give two possible consequences if this is not carried out
The machine could tip over sideways, specially on uneven ground with a raised skip.
The raised skip could hit overhead objects(wires, bridges & trees)
During work, the engine starts to overheat. explain the danger if someone tries to remove the radiator or expansion tank cap?
Hot water/liquid under pressure escapes causing severe scalds and burns
Dump truck is classified by a manufacturer as a 30 ton machine
What does this mean?
Maximum weights the ADT can carry is 30 tons, set by the manufacturer?
If the operator has to top up the hydraulic oil, two precautions to ensure cleanliness of the system?
Make sure the area around the filling point is clean(wipe with rag)
Use clean oil and clean equipment
Name for the three purposes of the raised lugs on tyres,
What can happen to a dump truck if the lugs are severely worn?
Good steering, good braking, good grip
Poor steering , poor braking, poor grip(traction)
