What happens in Book 1?
Juno bribes Aeolus to help her scatter Aeneas’ fleet
Neptune stops the storm out of anger as the sea is his domain
Jupiter relievers the Empire without End Prophecy
Aeneas and Achates meet Venus on Carthage
Cupid disguised himself as Iulus and makes Dido fall in love
What happens in Book 2?
Aeneas tell of the battle of Troy
Hear about Laocoon who doesn’t want to bring the Trojan horse in but is punished as it was seen to be a gift from the gods
Sinon wanted to bring the horse in because of piety
Priam the king of Troy and his son Plolites die
Venus stops Aeneas from killing Helen as he believes she is the cause of the war
Iulus has a flame ring around his head which persuades Anchises to leave Troy
Aeneas leaves Troy to continue his destiny with Iulus, Anchises and Creusa
Creusa gets lost and Aeneas runs back into the battle to try find her but sees her ghost showing she is dead
What happens in book 3 (not set text)?
Aeneas sails around
Anchises dies
A storm blows them to Carthage
What happens in Book 4?
Dido is madly in love with Aeneas because of Venus
A storm is sent by Juno causing Aeneas and Dido to shelter in a cave and make love which Dido sees as marriage
Rumour is personified
Dido confides in Anna about her guilt for liking Aeneas after her husband Sychaus died
Aeneas is visited by Mercury twice who encourages Aeneas to leave and continue with his destiny
Aeneas reluctantly tells Dido he has to leave
Dido curses Aeneas before committing suicide because of her heartbreak
What happens in Book 5 (not set text)?
Trojans go to Sicily and have funeral games for Anchises
Juno influences the Trojan women to burn the ships but Aeneas prays to Jupiter who sends a rainstorm to put out the flames
Anchises’ ghost visits Aeneas in a dream telling him to come to the underworld
Palinurus dies
What happens in Book 6?
Aeneas and his men land in Cumae
Sybil’s prophecy- Aeneas will only achieve his fate after a terrible war
Venus helps Aeneas find the Golden Bough needed to get into the underworld by sending doves to get it for him
They see Palinurus and Charon
Aeneas encounters Dido, he apologises to he as he didn’t know she was dead, she doesn’t speak but is seen with Sychaeus
They meet Anchises and are shown the pageant of heroes as well as the punishments
They see Rome and it’s future
Leaves through the gate of dreams
