Sight
Consumers often have predetermined ideas about a food’s appearance e.g. carrots should be free from imperfections and dirt.
Sound
The sound of sizzling food e.g. frying rashers prepares people for the food to come by stimulating the appetite
Smell
Foods that have pleasant aromas are often enjoyable for the consumer to eat, as a result, they are more likely to be chosen to be consumed by the consumer unlike food products with a strong smell e.g. blue cheese which can be off putting to some consumers.
Taste
Each taste bud has microvilli that sends messages to the brain about how something tastes. There are four specific tastes that they can detect : Sweet, Sour, Bitter and Salty.
