Holy Scriptures (Overview)
The Bible is the inspired… inerrant/infallible… sufficient rule of faith and practice. (2 Tim 3:16-17)
Holy Scriptures: Plenary Inspiration
God the Holy Spirit so supernaturally directed the human writers of Scripture that… without waiving their intelligence… their individuality… their personal feelings… their literary style… or any other human factor of expression… His complete and coherent Message to mankind was recorded with perfect accuracy in the original languages of Scripture: the very words bearing the authority of divine authorship. (2 Pet 1:21)
Trinity (Overview)
In the divine and infinite being there are three persons… yet one divine nature: Father… Son and Holy Spirit. (1 John 5:7)
Trinity: Father
Of none… neither begotten. Eternally God. First person of the Trinity.
Trinity: Son (Who is Jesus Christ?)
Eternally begotten Son of God. Savior of Sinners. Fully God and fully man.
Trinity: Holy Ghost
Third person of the Trinity. Proceeds eternally from the Father and the Son. Convicts the world of sin… righteousness and judgment and brings to the mind of God’s people that which God has said… and leads them to live Godly lives.
Man (Overview)
Created in the image of God… and created a little lower than the angels. Due to the fall… man is totally depraved and dead in sins. (Romans 3:9-18) (Dichotomy vs. Trichotomy)
Sovereignty of God
Pink: “We mean the supremacy of God… the kingship of God… the god-hood of God. To say that God is Sovereign is to declare that God is God. To say that God is Sovereign is to declare that He is the Most High… doing according to His will in the army of Heaven… and among the inhabitants of the earth… so that none can stay His hand or say unto Him what doest Thou?” (Dan 4:35)
Salvation: Justification
Justification is a legal act of God whereby He declares sinners righteous by upon the imputation of Christ’s active and passive obedience to them. (2 Cor 5:21)
Salvation: Eternal Security
Salvation cannot be lost! (John 10:27-29)
Church: Definition
The church is a body/congregation of baptized believers in Christ. Ekklesia is used 118 times in Scripture: 113 times referring to a local body on earth… 5 times in prospective reference–often to the glory church.
Church: Purpose of
- To glorify God 2. To fulfill the great commission 3. To serve as a fold/fellowship for God’s sheep–for their feeding and protection.
Eschatology
Premillennial… in accordance with a literal interpretation of Scripture.

Soteriology: Salvation (definition of)
Salvation is deliverance. It is deliverance by God… through Christ… from sin… guilt from sin… the condemnation of sin and hell.
Soteriology: Repentance (definition of)
Repentance is a deep sorrow for sin… humbling oneself before God and turning away from sin and to God.
Soteriology: Faith (definition of)
(Flavel) Faith is a saving grace whereby we receive and rest upon Christ for salvation. (Calvin) Faith is a firm and certain knowledge of God’s benevolence toward us… founded upon the truth of the freely given promise in Christ… both revealed to our minds and sealed upon our hearts through the Holy Spirit.
Soteriology: Faith (development)
Faith involves: 1. Knowledge - of the facts of the Gospel and all their implications. 2. Assent - of the mind to the truth of the Gospel. 3. Trust - in and reliance upon the object of saving faith.
Ordinances of the Church
- Baptism (Matt 28:19) 2. Lord’s Supper (I Cor 11:20-34)
Close/Closed/Open Communion
Closed: only to members in good standing of the local church.
Scriptural qualifications of proper baptism
- Right candidate - one who professes faith in Christ. 2. Right reason - for the purpose of obeying Christ’s command and giving testimony of personal faith and commitment to follow Christ 3. Right mode - by complete immersion in water. 4. Right authority - Scriptural command as exercised by a New Testament church. 5. Right administrator - an immersed believer acting under authority of the local church.
Doctrines of Grace
T - Total Depravity (Romans 3:10-18) U - Unconditional Election (Eph 1:4-5) L - Limited Atonement (John 10:15) I - Irresistible Grace (John 6:37 - 65) p - Preservation and Perseverance of the Saints (John 10:27-29)
Salvation: By grace
Ephesians 2:8-9: For by grace are ye saved through faith: and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works… lest any man should boast.
